A Modern Fairy Tale
There was a mini-arcade in the hallway of the mall. The woman handed her six-year old
daughter a fistfull of quarters and left her daughter among the mechanical horses, imitation cars,
and video games. There was also a series of telephones which for a quarter would tell a fairy tale.
Which classic tale the girl chose I could not hear. But the tale she did not choose was the one
where a mother left her child alone among mechanical beasts which must be fed silver coins.
